Terminology: “Action”

In film and television production, “action” is the verbal cue for actors to begin performing.

Typically, the director or assistant director calls "Action!" immediately after the camera and/or sound operator have called "speed" and the clapper has marked the beginning of the take.

In scenes involving extras, it may be preceded by a call of "background action" or simply "background."
