ADR ("automated dialogue replacement" or "additional dialogue recording"), also known as looping, is the recording of dialogue to match previously recorded film or video.
ADR is an extremely common component of feature film production and may be required because of excessive environmental noise, technical problems with the sound equipment or an unsatisfactory vocal performance during principal photography.
This process is sometimes called dubbing, although that usually implies replacing one actor's voice with another, sometimes in a different language.
