Terminology: “Assistant Director”

An assistant director (AD) is a member of a film or television who is responsible for maintaining order on set and managing the logistics of production. Depending on the scale and budget of a project, the assistant director may have an assistant, the second assistant director, who may in turn be assisted by a third assistant director or a second second assistant director.
