Terminology: “Black Box”


 

A black box is a simple performance space, typically consisting of a small, square room with black walls, Rather than fixed stage and seating areas, a black box theater may have portable chairs that can be arranged to fit the needs of a particular production. Black box theaters typically house experimental productions with small casts and budgets and few technical requirements.
